Lake Chaqmaqtin, Afghanistan.

FROM THE ARCHIVE : Lake Chaqmaqtin, Afghanistan. Young Kyrgyz girl early in the cold winter morning, washing up outside of her yurt, high in the Afghan Pamir. For lack of adequate facilities, even during the coldest months of the year when temperatures drop to minus 20 degrees in the Pamir, all basic human maintenance needs to be done outdoor. After spending four weeks working on this project in that part of Afghanistan, trekking and living with the bare minimum, I remember, once back in the Western world how almost magical it felt to turn on the taps and get pure water that did not need to be boiled or purified before being consumed. It felt like something I was doing for the first time, such comfort and luxury. Instagram : @fredericlagrange
